Jamiya is a mother of five and lives in Kagabo A, a village in the Mayuge District of Uganda. When she became pregnant with her fifth child, Jamiya received antenatal care at a private clinic but could not arrive at the clinic when labor pains began. Her husband simply didn’t have the money to transport her there quickly.
After enduring 28 hours of painful, obstructed labor, she was eventually taken to the nearest government hospital where she received a Caesarian section — luckily, her baby survived. However, while recuperating in the hospital, Jamiya realized that she was leaking urine because hours of obstructed labor had created a fistula.
Thanks to your support of Uganda Village Project, Leo, Jamiya received a successful fistula surgery at Kamuli Mission Hospital in March 2013. When we interviewed her after the surgery, Jamila said she was grateful to God, to her husband for coming with her for the surgery, and to UVP for giving her back her life. Thank you for your kindess!
