Abawaya can have a small, happy family

P1010785
Dear Danni,

Abawaya is a 20 year old mother living in the Buwolomera village of Uganda. Abawaya was one of 14 children and struggled to live happily due to the cost of nourishing such a large family. Abawaya has one child and hopes to keep her family small so she can fully support her children.

Uganda Village Project works to help and educate women like Abawaya to prevent unwanted births. Uganda has one of the highest fertility rates in the world, which leads to poverty stricken families that cannot afford to feed their children. Abawaya did not wish to repeat history, and because of your help, Danni, she doesn’t have to worry that she will.

Abawaya received a birth control shot that will prevent unwanted pregnancies for an extended amount of time. Abawaya can live worry-free and adequately care for her child thanks to your dedication to this cause. Thank you, Danni, for helping Abawaya and her child have better lives.

Nabire lives worry-free of unwanted pregnancies

Dear Ajay,

Nabire is 30 years old and lives with her husband in the village of Nakamini, Uganda. Nabire is one of millions of women in Uganda that hope to use contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Uganda has one of the highest fertility rates in the world, leading to families becoming too large for the parents to support.

Nabire and her husband found support from the Family Planning Outreach Program, where they learned about possible family planning methods. Eventually, Nabire made an informed decision to use contraceptive pills provided by the Uganda Village Project.

Both the contraceptives and the information on family planning were available to Nabire thanks to your donation, Ajay. Thank you for improving the lives of Nabire and her loved ones. Because of your efforts, Ajay, Nabire can live without the worries of unexpected pregnancies.

Dear Alice,

Although they had originally wanted to access family planning services, they had not been able to because such services were not offered in their village. But now, because of your support, this couple has been able to get contraceptives through the Uganda Village Project’s Village Outreach Program.

Naigaga stayed strong and is now healthy

VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100
Dear Diana,

Thank you for providing fistula repair surgery to Naigaga, a 35 year old fro Uganda. See her story below:

“My name is Naigaga and I am 35 years old. I have suffered from a fistula for 11 years. After I got a fistula, everyone in my village who came to visit me advised me to commit suicide because they thought that I had been cursed and that it would be better to die than to live my whole life leaking urine. I was strong because the nurse had explained to me that this had been brought about due to prolonged labor. One day, Loy (UVP staff) came to see me because they had told her that I had this condition. She gave me the good news that I could be repaired. I have been repaired and I am so grateful and overjoyed. When I go back home, I am going back to become a fistula ambassador because I would like to help other women.

Thanks to you Diana, Naigaga can live without fistula!

A 75-year-old man keeps his family safe

Kisuzu Difasi
Dear Dale,

Mr. Difasi is a 75-year-old father of seventeen children with three wives. He lives in the Bulamagi Village of Uganda, a village that Uganda Village Project has been working in for a year. Currently five people live in the household as most of his children have moved out and started their families. The rest are in college.

When asked why he bought a net, Mr. Difasi said, “I started buying nets when Uganda Village Project came to this village. I bought nets because this area has many mosquitoes and I want to keep my family from getting bitten by the mosquitoes, as they cause malaria.” He went on to say that “since sleeping under the net, we have not been bitten by mosquitoes, which is good. I am very grateful that UVP and their donors sell nets at a subsidized affordable price. Thank you very much.”

Thank you, Dale, for helping to keep the Difasi’s healthy!

A new lease on life after surgery!

VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100
Dear Ann,

Nafedede is a 42-year-old mother and farmer who resides in Walukuba village in the Iganga district of Uganda. She became pregnant with her fourth child at the age of 35 and was unable to reach the health center in time due to lack of money for transportation. By the time she arrived, she had been in labor for a long time and was very weak. Unfortunately, it resulted in a still birth and fistula.

Nafedede explained that when she awoke, she realized she was leaking urine. She turned to the birth attendant but they told her there was nothing they could do. This was devastating. This year she met the fistula coordinator at Uganda Village Project when they visited her village to hold an education awareness session on fistula and let people know of the free repair camps.

Nafedede is glad and very appreciative to Uganda Village Project and to you, Ann, for giving her a new life. She is also grateful for the care and the support given to her while at the June fistula camp. She now knows there is surgery that can repair fistulas and is telling others in her village. Thank you Ann!!

Nandago is on the road to recovery

VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100
Dear Leo,

Nandago got pregnant with her first child at the tender age of 15. “My parents were not very happy, but they still supported me,” she explains. “One day I started having pains and told my mother. After some time my family managed to gather some money to take me to the health clinic. There, they said I needed to go to the district hospital.”

Nandago had endured prolonged obstructed labor, which clinics in the village are not equipped to handle. By the time she arrived at the district hospital, it was too late – she had a still birth that resulted in both vesicovaginal and rectovaginal fistula. This was devastating both physically and emotionally for her and her whole family.

Her father heard about Uganda Village Project’s (UVP) fistula repair camps and immediately came to find out when the next camp would take place. Nandago received free and safe fistula repair surgery at that camp. Unfortunately, her injuries were very severe and she remains incontinent, but she is scheduled for another set of surgery at the November Camp.

Thank you, Leo, for giving Nandago assistance with her surgery. She is very grateful that she is on the road to recovery!
