Dear Allison,

Mirembe Edith is a 45 year old mother of five childdren, two of whom are Sarah and Maureen. They live in Namungalwe village, Uganda, a village that Uganda Village Project has been working in for the past two years.

When asked why she bought the net for her children, she says, “I attended two malaria education sessions that UVP held in our village, and my daughters were taught in school about malaria prevention and came home to tell me about it. We had some very old nets that we were not working well, so I saved up enough money to buy a net. I will buy more when I can. This area has many mosquitoes and I want to protect my children and myself from malaria. I appreciate that UVP subsidizes the nets. I am very grateful. Thank you.”

Thanks again for protecting Sarah and Maureen from malaria!

Susan has a new lease on life!

VLUU L100, M100 / Samsung L100, M100
Dear Jin,

At the tender age of 16, Susan Kako got pregnant. Susan is a high school student in Iganga district in Eastern Uganda. Throughout her pregnancy, Susan had no complications. When she went into labor, her family was unable to get her to the clinic in time and she was in labor for over a day. On the second day, Susan was taken to the health center, but unfortunately delivered a still born baby and at the same time developed a fistula. Susan was devastated. Susan heard about the Fistula camp through some of her mother’s friends in the neighboring village and she immediately contacted Uganda Village Project’s Fistuala Coordinator to find out more. We assisted Susan in attending the camp . Susan’s surgery went well and she is happy to be cured and feels that she has been given a second lease on life. “I would like to help women with fistulas.  I will talk to women about it and let them know that there is a cure  through surgery and maybe be one day I will be able to do the surgery.”she said with a big smile.

Susan Kako is glad and very appreciative to Uganda Village Project and Jin for giving her a second lease on life. She is also grateful for the care and support given to her while at the camp and is eager to help and tell other women of her ordeal and that there is surgery for the condition. Thank you Jin Z!!

HIV testing for the entire village of Nabitovu!

Naigaga Sarah & her Child (1)
Dear charles, Joe and Karen, Susan, Ramesh, Tom, Matt & Alison, Tim and Sherie, Kim, Ron, Thomas, Chris, Thomas, Cindy, Erik, Rick and Beth, and Butson,

Naigaga Sarah (photo – waiting to talk to the counselor and for her results after testing)  is a 34 year old mother  of three children (her youngest is 6 months old) who lives in Nabitovu village  and is a member of the  Nabitovu Village Health team. Nabitovu is a village that Uganda Village Project has supported and worked in for the last three years.

Naigaga Sarah comes from a polygamous marriage, she is wife number three and the youngest wife in the home. ” We all came to test today” she said smiling.

“Since Uganda Village Project came into the village, my co-wives, my husband and myself have been testing for HIV at least once and sometimes twice every year. As a Village Health Team member I encourage others to come for testing and mobilize the village for the HIV education sessions as well. I am happy for the opportunity Uganda Village Project  and their donors have given us, by bringing testing right to the village level. They test at the health centre as well, but it is far and walking there can sometimes be tiresome, therefore bringing testing to us is good and we are grateful.”

Naigaga Sarah and the community members of Nabitovu Village are thankful to you all  for your generous support that provided a day of HIV/AIDS and STI testing for the entire village.

Dear Srikanth,

Waiswa (right) is a 29 year old father of 4 children who resides in Nawasenga B’ Village of Uganda, a new village that UVP took on mid last year. Waiswa is a subsistence farmer, barely making ends meet. His youngest daughter, Sulaina, fell ill from malaria and Waiswa’s older brother Moses wanted to ensure that it did not happen again and therefore invested in a mosquito net for his brother’s family.

When asked why he bought a net for his brother, he said, “I have bought a net because this area has very many mosquitoes and I have had malaria before, and now Waiswa’s child also got malaria and was very very sick.  My family already sleeps under a mosquito net, I want to ensure the same for my brother’s children.”

When we asked Waiswa what he thought he said, “I am very grateful he bought my Sulaina a net which she will share with her siblings. I will save up and buy another net. Thank you very much.”

Waiswa and Moses asked us to pass on a big thank you to you Srikanth!
